A common question we receive is, “Why don’t you just list year, make, and model?” Although year, make, and model is one way to check if a vehicle might have a recall, it’s not the most accurate way to determine if your vehicle is affected. The reason is that every vehicle has a unique repair history and can potentially be manufactured with different parts. The most accurate way to check your vehicle’s latest recall status is by using its VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
Another common misconception is that you don’t have to check your vehicle’s recall status because your manufacturer would have notified you if your vehicle had a recall. While manufacturers do make an effort to send recall notices, the notices don’t always make it to the correct owner. For example, vehicle owners might buy used cars, change addresses, or there might be a delay in updating vehicle records at the DMV.
